Children's Book Contest: Little Happiness

Posting my children's book I did for this Japanese contest a couple of months ago. I'm still practicing water color, had some scanning and color matching issues and some rough photoshop mistakes, but it was really satisfying to finish a project. Unfortunately not all of the images are the final version and I don't have any English text right now so I just have images but hopefully the images are enough to tell the story.

New logo for my Visual Identity System

I have been taking my time, redesigning my Visual Identity System so I can apply it to my business card, website, resume, cover letter and whatnot. After a few weeks of sketching and playing around with ideas, I decided to use this one. Right now I'm trying to apply the design to my website, but unfortunately, I might have to tweak it a little bit to make it work with the layout....

My uncle said he quit smoking since he found out that he has cardiomyopathy. He said it's not too much of a big deal, but since he's been a heavy smoke (a VERY heavy smoker) for 35 years, he quit smoking and I believe its almost 2 weeks. Considering how he used to smoke 35-40 cigarettes per day, that's amazing. I hope he keeps it up. To cheer him up and keep him motivated, I drew this little drawing for him. The writing basically says "good luck on quitting smoking". And...I'm stabbing cigarettes to the cake instead of candles.

A character design I did for the Nickelodean International Open Mics. I started designing a character as soon as I heard about it, but ended up pushing it aside so I didn't get to do a few things I had originally planned...I personally like my character design, but I wish I could work on it a little more. I had a hard time deciding what colour this character should be, and I was also thinking about changing his design in the last minute, but I kept it anyway.

So, here is a portrait of my daddy I did. I was supposed to paint it for him long time ago but I kept pushing it aside. I finally started about 2 weeks ago, painted a little bit and then took a break, went back to it a few days later.... I think it's close to done, if not entirely done. I could still fix it, but I thought I would first show it to my father and then fix it once I get some feedback from him. Or if anybody has any feedback, it would be much appreciated.

I have been ambitious and have been working on a scenery painting...But I figured it's going to take me long, I thought I'd do some quick painting practice..But then I wasn't being productive, so I thought I'd work on my awesome mini moose flash animation! Just because I missed the last moose monday.It's supposed to be blinking at the beginning, but you can hardly see it.

I received a small package from my uncle a couple of days ago. I opened it and oh my goodness, I found a set of watercolour brush pens! They look like one of those water refillable watercolour brush pens, but they come in colours. So I thought I'd post a picture of the brush set, and the little practice I did for fun, just to show that I did something (kind of) useful today. I tend to use too much water when I try to soften the edges, but I'll get used to it eventually. I'm just worried about when they eventually dry out...'cause they're not easy to find here...

I also thought I shouldn't be too dependent on digital painting, where I can fix my mistakes anytime I want. So I guess I should be working/practicing on more on the traditional painting.

I just wanted to see if I can paint furry animals. And I like wolves...so here it is, an angry wolf. Oh my god, painting fur is hard and time consuming. I was going to work a little bit more on this, but I thought I would just move on to the next painting.

I'm currently taking a part-time Maya Intro course at Van Arts. It started in late September, and I have it every Saturday. I thought I would post some of the earlier exercises we did in class. Here they are, a mug, a weird looking banana,glass, and a dice. I apologize for the watermark. We started animating in class, so I will be posting some of the animation soon.

"Karasu Tengu"

I've always been interested in those Japanese mythical creatures..or rather, monster spirits."Tengu" is one of those monster-spirits and Karasu Tengu is a Crow-like Tengu....Supposedly they have beaks and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics.They're also supposed to have wings, but..I forgot to draw them...I'd like to draw more of these creatures and colour them too.

I was going to clean up a little bit in Photoshop but thought I would leave it like this because it sort of looked like an old black and white picture....Or, I could say I was a little lazy...

Here are some of my sketches and character design I did for my final film. The final version of the mammoth is quite different from the earlier design. It developed throughout the film production until the beginning of rough animation period. My bunny design basically remained the same, but the final version of him is a little rounder than the original design.
